April 24th Marlene and I attended the Queen's Cup Steeplechase in Mineral Springs, NC. The people at the Queens cup asked the members of the Charlotte Camera Club to volunteer Photographers in return from free adminssion. They use us to suppliment the professional photographers that they hire for the race.
There were three of us there and we divided the track up into different territories. We all were supposed to shoot the races from various vantage points and I was detailed to work the tailgating crowds.
The tailgaters were a riot. The had a tailgating contest sponsored by Dickens-Michener I asked if I could accompany the judges in hopes of getting good pictures. We ended up mostly judging people in the Meadow's section of the racetrack. These were primarily company sponsored locations so they had pretty good spreads. Who knew that bribing judges was legal..:) I ended up getting some good pictures as well as 5 free beers and two mixed drinks. It also allowed me to pass out to some cards in hope they might purchase the pictures later from my event photography website.
All in all it was a good day, albeit a bit hot. The temps were in the high 80's low 90s so I ended up being a little red for the day. The following is a shot from race 6. The rest of the pictures are on www.rivinus.photoreflect.com which can also be reached from www.rivinus-photography.com
More pictures will come later. I seem to have misplaced the cable for Marlene's camera.
